Since the so called Indie movies can be made with little capital, some businessmen I know are trying their hand in being a producer. The trick, according to them, is to make a movie with a captured audience. One example is a sex movie (not a porn) that would be delectable to the male movie goers. With a little computation, the producer can break even with the invested money if the movie is shown in the theaters for at least 3 days.

But it still looks a gamble to me.

I have always wanted to make a movie. I even attended script writing program so that some day I will be be working on a movie project. I was even hired to develop a story for a movie, sadly the movie never went to the floor.

I think "niche movies" could be a good option. Documentaries about relevant people in certain fields, such as computer scientists, philanthropic people and non-commercial musicians.

Making a movie can cost a lot of money. A low-budget short movie for example could cost over $100,000 to make because there are lots of people who'll be paid for their services. Once the movie is shot, edited and is ready for the market, you'll have to spend more money for advertising. And then comes the hard part, getting the theaters to show your movie.

If you want to make a movie, first you'll need to start with the marketing. Reach out to TV stations and theaters. If they aren't interested then maybe you should invest in another project or else end up being one of the many Indie filmmakers who don't make money from their movies.

No i won't want to invest in Movie project. That's personal anyway. But come to think of it, is the movie industry really that profitable.

It looks like you know the ins and outs of movie-making. Your are right that after everything is said and done, you still have to spend for the marketing. First is the creation of a movie poster which is the first requirement of the theaters. The studio shoot for the poster entails expense as you have to pay the actors for their appearance. Not to forget the cost of the censors board review. And then the booking is the hardest part - getting a theater to show your movie.

It is really sad that so many indie film makers have lost money due to bad marketing.
