A 21-year-old Chinese mixed martial artist died on Friday after suffering from severe dehydration during his attempt to cut weight the day before.

Yang Jian Bing was taken to a hospital in Pasay, Philippines, on Thursday for suspected heat stroke. His 125-pound flyweight bout against Filipino Geje Eustaquio at ONE Championship 35 was immediately canceled.

On Friday, ONE officials announced Yang had died from cardiopulmonary failure.

What do you think of this? Personally I am surprised this doesn't happen more often.

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often either. That's sad. He overdid it.

Taken too far and too quickly, a good or noble initiative can turn tragic. Body physiology is complex and has its own internal processes of correction or adjustment but up to a certain point. If one uses his willpower to interfere with these mechanisms, it can be fatal. I feel sorry for this young man who overexerted himself in a bid to push nature which can be very unforgiving.

That's such a sad news. I agree, he overdid it. He risked his health just because he was trying to achieve something. Well, may he rest in peace now.
