The prospects for email marketing look bright. A raft of new technologies attest to this. Email marketing is there to stay and it has outlived competition from Facebook and Twitter with the former appearing to be flagging and developing new applications which are outliving it. New technologies like geofencing, biometric facial recognition and use of animated GIFs in emails has added a new and fresh twist to its position as a powerful tool of online marketing.

There was some talk not too long ago that SMS marketing will kill email marketing. Those who thought so were wrong. Many people still use email to communicate and as it's a lot easier to get someone to give you their email address, internet marketers can still coax people to give them their email addresses and will then try to sell them goods or services from time to time.

And as social networks clamp down on promotional content many marketers will have to start building email lists and focus more on email marketing.

I agree that email is here to stay in the marketing field. However, its potency has greatly diminished because of the advancing technology. The SMS has somehow dimmed the prospects but the real nemesis is the social media. People are mostly connected by social media accounts unlike before when the cheapest and fastest communication was email. But in fairness to emails, it has still some efficacy left and it can also be of help in marketing... even slightly.

There are challenges ahead, but it won't be email marketing alone. While social channels are clamping down, most of them are developing preferences for doing business with verified businesses. This holds back the majority of marketers because they have not built media companies. instead they stay small one man shops. The media companies started by affiliates seem to be flouriising quite well. I think the answer is that affiliates need to scale up, incorporate, and scale themselves.

One does not have to dominate. There will never be a day when every person has a social media account. Email is the foundation, since you need an email to get access to most sites. But once you're in a social site (Facebook/twitter/linkedin) It does make it a lot easier for communication. Although what that does is open up email to the marketers. I think email is and will be huge for a while to come until something better comes along...

There is this element of email marketing which is an aspect of internet marketing called solo ads. One buys a list of email contacts from another entity with a large database of email contacts. These are then exposed to your ads or marketing campaign and some are guaranteed to sign up based on the fact that they trust the party they have subscribed to. These are very effective for someone who is commencing on internet and email marketing campaigns.

E Mails are more content rich, accurate & offer more visual opportunities than sms marketing. The Big challenge in email marketing is genuine mail id database for instance if your target is Medical service providers then you must have relevant data, Once you have it you are ready to convince people in most effective way.

Email marketing is a form of direct marketing that uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fundraising messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing. Traditional forms of advertising such as print and broadcast media not only costs a fortune but usually are not effective as well. A mailing list is one form of marketing managers can venture into to minimize the cost of promotions while making sure that the message reaches the right people. A mailing list is one direct marketing tool used to promote products and services only to those people who will be interested to what you offer.
